In my list, the man who lit up the world comes on the top. No one has changed the human destiny the way he did. It is because of him we are having a wash of brilliant light rather than torch-lit darkness. In 1879 THOMAS EDISON (1847 – 1931) gave humans the power to create light without fire. He invented an affordable incandescent lamp. Today many life’s conveniences we take for granted. Here we must acknowledge the contribution of Thomas Edison – Radio, Movies, TV, Telephones (he improved on Bell’s) – almost the entire way we live is altered by him forever. The night after his funeral, Americans dimmed their lights for the man who lit up the world.
