My friend from Delhi Shyam was repeatedly telling about a book ‘MERA MUNNA’. He said this book was written by Savitri Devi – who was originally a Russian. This is one of the greatest books he has ever read. I am unable to find a copy of this book. If you were to find, kindly get me a copy. Based on this information I began my search for Savitri Devi. What I found of Savitri Devi are very interesting.
- Savitri Devi was born as Maximine Portaz in France She secured PHD in Greek Philosophy.
- She was an open supporter of Nazism and Adolf Hitler. She believed that Hitler was an
incarnation of Lord Vishnu - The true Aryan race, she believed, is in India. She came to India in search of such race.
- Looking at the intellectual brilliance of Mr. Asit Krishna Mukherji, she married him, moved to
India, converted to Hinduism. - She wrote many books – one such book is “A warning to Hindus”. Preface for this book was
written by G.D. Savarkar.
I have downloaded the book ‘A’ warning to Hindus. To farm a firm opinion about Savitri Devi I must first read one book at least. Savitri Devi has a website “savitridevi.org”. Some prominent books of Savitri Devi
are as follows:
- The Lightning & the Sun
- The non-Hindu Indians & Indian Unity
- A Warning to the Hindus
- Forever and Ever
- Gold in the Furnace
- Defiance, The prison memories of Savitri Devi
- A Son of God/ Son of the Sun
- Impeachment of Man.
I do not know if I have the time / Life to read the entire booklist above… but at least one book I shall try to read faithfully. My gut feeling is that this forgotten riter/unknown writer/the Goddess has a gem of an angle in her writing. Hence asked Jyothi to print ‘A Warning to the Hindus’ which is 170 a page book. office.
Having completed Savitri Devi / Maximine Portaz’s “A warning to the Hindus”, I feel that she wants Hindus to preserve their religion; she means – Mohammadism and Christianity – by other religious. She demonstrates with statistics of 1930s that the population of the Hindus is reducing and the population of other religious increasing. To stop this man conversion – Hindus should unite and Rule.
- She calls Christianity and Islam as creedal religious. They are dependent on a single individual. For them the God is one.
- Hinduism is non-creedal religion. They are not dependent on a single individual and his realization of God. For the Hindus Gods are many.
- Christianity and Islam are new religions; whereas Hinduism is over 10,000 years old!
- Her comparison of Hindu religion with the Greek, Roman and Egyptian Paganistic religions and why they became extinct are excellent. Their society was divided into free few citizens and millions of slaves.
- She points out the defects of caste-system and how Hinduism is excluding millions from fold because of this system. This very caste system is ruining Hinduism and its supremacy!
Having said those good things and many more unsaid, allow me to state the following:
- It is agreed that Hinduism is a great religion. It very ancient. But what is wrong with these new religions? What is wrong in converting? Rather than Ram, if I were to believe Rahim – What happens?
- Many greatest religious vanished from the face of the earth – Greek & Egyptian religions for example. But in their place new and better religions emerged.
- If the Hinduism is really as great as Savitri Devi projects it to be, then why did the Buddha and Jaina rebel against Hinduism?
I am a Hindu. Being a Hindu does not mean I must take care/ ensure the survival of this religion. I am a Hindu by accident/not by choice/ by benefit. All I can say Savitri Devi was trying to entice the Hindu to turn violent against other religious.
