Happy New Year arrived finally! The world has celebrated its arrival without any inhibitions. Happy New Year (HNY)! The meaning oh HNY is “I wish you a Happy New Year”. We all wish each other. Kindly note he following whenever you talk of HNY:
- It is only a wish! As a verb this word means “feel or express a strong desire or hope for something hat cannot or probably will not happen”. And as a Noun this word means “a desire or hope for something to happen”. So much for the WISH!
- Happy / Happiness! It is an emotion. It can only be felt. It cannot be seen with a naked eye. As an adjective this word means ‘feeling or showing pleasure or contentment”. In my frank opinion ‘no man can ever be happy’. I do not think no one can be happier than G.L. Norris, who wrote his own epitaph thus: “here lies the remains of G.L. Norris, who lived and died the happiest man on earth, who was always busy doing good and trying to do good and advising and helping those in trouble. G.L. Norris never knew his advice to go wrong”. (Robert W Lynd).
- Now the word/s New Year. As a Noun this word means “The calendar year just begun / about to begin” / “The first few days or weeks of a year” / “The period immediately before and after 31 st December”.
A historical legend said about HNY. Caesar made January 1 as the first day of the year to honor the Roman god of the beginnings. Janus has two faces which allowed him to look back into the past and forward into the future.
My firm opinion is that the gods with either two or three or four faces can only see in more than one direction. Past is dead. Future is yet to come. In other words, both are non-existing. Then what is the use of those gods with more than one face? New year / Old year, therefore, make people see distorted reality…hallucinations. There can never be a new year…for the Time in itself is a distortion. It is the product of a sick mind.
All I can say is to live in the moment…in the present, which is fleeting. The gap that you see between this moment and the next is ‘eternity’. Every moment I desire that you all must live in that eternity. Then you can never get old. You will be beyond past and future…beyond old year and new year! This is the HNY of every Man!
