There are 12 months, the 12 zodiac signs, and 12 stations of the Moon and Sun. There are also 12 main northern stars and 12 main southern stars. Thus, number 12 has the greatest significance. For you to be born and exist today from 12 previous generations, you needed a total of 4,094 ancestors over the last 400 years.
Think for a moment: How many struggles? How many battles? How many difficulties? How much sadness? How much happiness? How many love stories? How many expressions of hope for the future? Here the language fails me. I am sorry. Your ancestors underwent much more than what I could write for you to exist in this present moment.
As for as I am concerned, I do not know the names of my great-grandparents! It is a shame! This is one of the unanswerable questions in life! And I will go to my grave without answers. It is due to their hope I am alive today. But I do not know if this was the future that my ninth great-grandparents saw. This gives birth to a peculiar situation where I neither know my past nor will know future. While honoring all my grandparents, I exist.
