The 4 Walls of Fear

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Human beings lived and are living in fear. This fear is injected by the parents and the society. The human mind is free. Rabindranath Tagore said ‘Where the mind is free, where the head is held high’. Forget the mind and the head, we can’t even think freely! Our mind is constrained…4 walls are built; it cannot think beyond those walls. These walls are the ‘walls of fear’.

The first wall which blocked the mind is the ‘Wall of Religion’. Everything we do/think are done in the terms of religion i.e., good and bad; correct- incorrect; pious – impious; pure- impure; heaven and hell; god and demon, and auspicious and inauspicious. I saw people who look for an auspicious moment to step out of their house. If they were to step out in an inauspicious moment, it is believed that bad luck will befall. Thus, in everything we do, we have the fear of religion! Only religion alone can make you imagine life after life!!! Thank God, I am an atheist!

The second wall is the ‘Wall of Time’. Time is an abstract, meaningless & a useless concept. There is no such thing as time… as you see in a watch. We simply exist. For a buffalo sitting under a tree on a sunny afternoon chewing grass in rhythmic manner has no sense of time. It has sense of existence. Religion and time are linked. Auspicious moment, good time, bad time, good muhurat, bad muhurat. I have known a friend who used to check the almanac for a good muhurat to kiss his wife! If he kisses in an inauspicious moment, then things may not turn out good! We eat according to the time, not according to hunger – breakfast time, lunch time & dinner time! Any living being eats when hungry, not when it is time. Similarly, we sleep according to time! We read, write, play, do every waking activity according to time. The only thing that cannot happen according to time is death. Thus, the fear of time has blocked the brain. Can you imagine a moment that is not in time?

The third is the ‘Wall of Space’. How can space block the brain? Heaven & Hell exist in space! They have a geographical location! If you construct a house, for example, it has to follow certain rules and regulations. It should be east facing! We discuss house in spatial sense. My house is in Delhi, your house is in Mumbai. Everything that we do is limited by space. Can you imagine a place that is not in space?

The fourth is the ‘Wall of Science’. Science made us believe that what science says is true. For example, a rose is red. Science says rose is red because of certain chromosomes present in it. In what way does this information make a difference? Atom is divided into neutrons, protons and electrons etc. Does this information make us to lead any different life? No. This useless information blocks our vision and prevents enjoying the redness of a rose. Can you imagine life without science?

Thus, religion, time, space and science have blocked our brain from four sides. We cannot think/imagine beyond these four walls! Reading the above passage, my long-term friend Mr. Sumeet Bidada was seething with anger. He asked ‘what the hell are you talking’? Science is science. Religion is religion. Space is space. Time is time. He challenged ‘Show one person whose brain is not blocked with these 4 imaginary walls’?

I agreed to show at least one person. Though I can show many more, for the time being, if one person shown who is not affected by time, space, religion and science, my purpose is served. For example, a month / 2 months old baby, has no sense of time.  It is morning when they get up and night when they sleep. What they first eat is breakfast; last eat is dinner. They are oblivious to time and space. This infant doesn’t have any spatial sense. He can comfortably sit in the bathroom and eat or stand on the bed and pee. He can do any work, anywhere. He has no fear of darkness, or light, or rain, or fire, or god, or demon. He looks at the rose and smiles without bothering what the rose petals are made of. The baby’s sleep is peaceful, stress less & beautiful. The smile of the baby and our smile is not the same. He has no walls; we have.

Creation is fearless. The society instilled the fear of fear, fear of unknown, fear of god, heaven and hell. God sent every one of us into the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve, according to Biblical story lived happily. It is our choice to come out of the Garden of Eden. We left heaven and entered hell. That person who is not affected by the 4 walls of fear is beyond success & failure. He is beyond god and demon. The person who is confined to these 4 walls, is affected by diseases such as reputation, success, failure, riches, poverty, beauty and ugliness.

How do we come out of these 4 walls? There was the Jesus, the Buddha, the Mohammad, the Mahavira who broke the wall, looked beyond. Billions existed before and existing now and the people who may exist tomorrow, are sitting amidst 4 walls. None is asking ‘what is beyond’? These people created a delusion called life. Get the hell out of these 4 walls. The Mohammed, the Krishna, the Buddha etc. looked beyond these walls. It is their success. We can also become the Jesus, Buddha, Krishna & Mohammed, if we overcome the fear of these 4 walls.
