Would you not simply dismiss crazy if I were to begin the process of re-inventing the wheel? Would you not simply laugh if I were to say that the process of re-inventing the wheel is but scientific advancement?
Almost 60 years ago Russia & USA have landed their ‘Chandrayan’ on the moon. China did the same 30 years ago! Please note, no other developed/developing nation ever embarked on Chandrayan. Japan, Germany, South Korea, UK, France etc. reaped the benefits of over half century-old Chandrayan scientific benefits. They concentrated elsewhere to propel their countries further while we are busy with the wheel reinvention!
If the logic is that Chandrayan is the pride of India, then allow me to apply it to others:
- Should we not re-invent automobiles rather than asking Hyundai, Volvo, Jeep, Suzuki etc. to manufacture in India?
- Don’t you think we should have the re-invented Indian version of the Apple, Samsung, One plus mobile phone?
- Don’t you want Indianized, indigenously developed version of the ‘Microsoft Office’ or the ‘Kaspersky’?
Misplaced Indian nationalism and bloated national egos! In the field of finance, as against the Christian Banking and Insurance, Islam gave an alternate in Islamic Banking and Takaful Insurance – with far-reaching financial consequences. Every bank or insurer in the world acknowledges it.
Chandrayan is not an achievement; it is an acknowledgment that we are a century behind Russia, US and China. Let us celebrate!
