“Never do Yesterday,
What should be done tomorrow.
If at last you do succeed,
Never try again”.
– Predestination – (2014) Movie.
This movie is very difficult to understand. The movie is based on time loop and time travel. Can the time exist? Even if we were to travel, this does not establish the existence of time. All we do is to travel in a circular manner. The faster we travel, the quicker we can compile the circle. This does not mean time exists. Look at the above statement once again, it says:
Never do yesterday
What should be done tomorrow.
A very beautiful and powerful statement indeed. This statement does not talk about today because today is a fact, not fiction. But yesterday and tomorrow are pure fiction.
Let us compare the statement with our Kabir Doha:
Kaal kare so Aaj Kar, Aaj kare so Ab
Pal Mein Pralay Hoyegi, Bahuri Learegi Kab?
Meaning: Do tomorrow’s work today, today’s work now. How can the work be done if a moment is lost?
People say Kabir tried to explain the human tendency of laziness & procrastination. This lethargy is being condemned by Kabir. With due respects and accepting the point of view of Sant Kabir ji, I ask, why Kabir is giving too much importance to work? And he is asking us to complete tomorrow’s work today! Enlightened saint Kabeer does not even know there is no tomorrow nor is there the next moment? They simply do not exist.
The beautiful following sentence conveys an important fact – there is no point in doing tomorrow’s work today.
Never do yesterday
What should be done tomorrow.
This sentence clearly explains an important fact i.e., the non-existence of tomorrow. Has anyone seen tomorrow? Everyone talks and plans for tomorrow, the future; and they have never even seen it! It is even difficult to contemplate about tomorrow. When the much-romanticized tomorrow always comes as ‘today’. Tomorrow can never come as tomorrow. Tomorrow can either is not born or may be dead or may not exist. Tomorrow is a beautiful fiction. All our human life exists and runs around for something that is not there!
All our life we plan for tomorrow. Our heaven and hell exist in tomorrow. If I work hard today, tomorrow I can rest. If I do good deeds today, tomorrow the God will bless! All things exist only in something that does not even exist! I think this should be taken as the definition of man’s foolishness. Man is foolish to live in tomorrow. Hence, I say and fully agree with:
Never do yesterday
What should be done tomorrow.
Let that tomorrow come. If tomorrow comes! The most dangerous and ignorant concept is tomorrow. This ignorant concept has brought eternal ruin age and made man a slave of tomorrow. For your tomorrow save today or work today or whatever! Stereophonic rubbish!
This concept of tomorrow exists not only in religion, our lives, education, and thinking but also in science! Today’s man considers science as certainty, as an experiment and observation. I think science too is lying. It has unknowingly fallen prey to the concept of tomorrow. Time travel proves the point. Future can mean tomorrow or next century. When tomorrow does not exist, how can you go there? Similarly, Yesterday is dead. What is dead cannot exist. Then how can you travel in time for yesterday? Yesterday can mean past or the last century. Life is not continuous. Continuity to where? And continuity for what? Only Hindus think life to be continuous through their Karma theory. For no other religion life is continuous. Life can never exist yesterday or tomorrow.
Hence never do tomorrows work today or live tomorrow’s life today. You are here and now. Live. That is all.
