Mr. Rahul Singh is my student at Sun Life Financial, Gurugram, Haryana India. He has joined as Junior Process Associate in 2016 and developed himself into a Subject Matter Expert in 2023. This in itself is a great achievement for any working professional. Please accept my congratulations first. The job profile of Rahul involves among other things, to explain the benefits of Permanent Life Insurance, ULIP plans (to name a few) to his Canadian clients through easily understandable Illustrations, manual calculations of policy cash value at different timelines and the expected future premiums. On checking my own personal records, it is evident that Mr. Rahul Singh underwent Insurance training programme that was specially designed suiting the professional needs of M/s Sun Life Financial in 2017.
In these training sessions I come across many working professionals across the globe who are in the insurance sector by ‘chance’ and not by ‘choice’. For Rahul, getting into Sun Life was a chance happening. As their trainer I will have to turn their ‘chance’ in to ‘choice’. For nearly a decade, I enjoyed training and sharing my time with Sun Life employees. Later, they stopped contacting me for the reasons best known to them. Probably all their employees may have been professionally qualified and hence they did not need my services. And I sincerely pray for this assumption to be correct.
Every teacher’s dream is the same … to be remembered by their students; to make their students lifelong learners; to make them understand that ‘learning never stops. Learning = Earning. Further, in today’s fast-paced world, it is essential to stay up to date with the latest trends and knowledge in insurance field. This is where professional education and development come into play. By investing in your education and development you have done a great job Rahul.
After 7 years, and after much water has flown under the bridge, Mr. Rahul Singh posted the following message on my LinkedIn page. What more can any teacher ask for?
“Hi Sir, it’s been 6-7 years since I attended your insurance training at Sun Life, the session helped me a lot in my career and also helped me become Subject Matter Expert in Life Insurance administration team. I still remember the lessons and the movies you recommend, I also remember you mentioned about III certification courses, finally I have enrolled it now and cleared 2 papers so far for Licentiate. Just wanted to share that I am following your knowledge and insights you shared in that training, and it is still helping me in my career.”
Lastly, Rahu and needless to say, your grateful message made my day. I could not have asked the Almighty for more. Thak you for being a good lifelong student. You are the proud emotional assets I earned in my insurance life. At the same time, I do have a request – I request you to pay your knowledge forward. I want you to help all those unassuming innocent employees of Sun Life Financial by imparting insurance knowledge; I request you to help them in becoming a better employee and most importantly a better human being.
