THE UNFORGETTABLE GHASSAN MARROUCHE

The smart couple you see above belong to Mrs. & Mr. Ghassan Marrouche. Mr. Ghassan Marrouche & I worked together at M/s Oman United Medical & Life Insurance Company (OUMLIC) Muscat, Sultanate of Oman from 2002 to 2005. He worked as the General Manager and I was the Technical & Reinsurance Manager of that company. We interacted a lot. Let me tell you…we got along very well. His insurance experience in itself speaks volumes of his good self. He always wanted involvement of all concerned before any decision is taken. He welcomed suggestions. A perfect gentleman. He was the person who taught me the importance of money with this statement: “If money talks, bull shit walks”.

The company had promised him a ‘Mercedes’ car as a part of his compensation package. He was upset when the company had given him a ‘Lexus’ car. When asked, he replied very kindly “Dr. Gopal! It is not the car I am upset about. It is about making unwanted promises. And I request you to keep your promises, always”. But as good and honest man, he continued his hard work and took the insurance company to new heights.

Mr. Marrouche studied at the University of Southern California, US, completed Masters in Public Administration. He is a linguist. He is very fluent in English, Arabic and French. A well- travelled person. I met couple of times the adorable and well-educated Mrs. Nada El-Halabi Marrouche. They are blessed with three children.

We moved on with our lives… went separate ways. We are not in contact since 2005. I tried to contact Mr. Marrouche on FB & LinkedIn…and it was through his son I could reconnect with him. I am writing this simple piece as a thankful gesture to the Almighty for all the good things He taught through Mr. Marrouche during our brief association. I wish him, his wife and children all well and good health.
