Today is Monday. People talk of Monday blues … to go to office, traffic and a lot more. As usual, I got into my truck around 9 am and proceeded resolutely towards office. On the way I encountered traffic pollution Monday blues and many more… I had no other option but to switch on the local radio station on the truck stereo. A lady RJ voice started relentlessly and loudly announcing …” today is ‘common sense day’, I request all the listeners to phone-in and let me know what is it that we call as common sense, what makes common sense… so on and so forth. Many listeners who wanted to hear their lovely voices on radio started phoning in; defining through their own examples what common sense is!
I wonder why people are obsessed with common sense. The advertisements that we see on the television, hear on the radio are they not instances of common sense? For example, use XYZ face cream to become fair or use ABC soap to remain fresh throughout the day! Our common sense warns us, tells us that this is just an advertisement, yet we believe it. On a peak traffic day everybody tries to overtake everybody – causing traffic congestion and utter chaos on the road are some examples for human common sense. Whatever we do in life, when we do not do it in orderly manner then it is not common sense.
It is not the case that we do not have common sense. It is the case that we do not want to be those animals with common sense. Countries too do not have common sense. Governments project their countries as a peace-loving and all other countries as war-mongers. Govt project their people as patriotic and people from other countries are not. It is all simple common sense. We are made to believe that we are the best… Thus, the common sense examples can be unlimited. I wonder why this lady on the radio station, I am sorry, the RJ on the radio is screaming at the pitch of voice and inviting the people to share their views on common sense. It is simple common sense that she wants more listeners for her program. Am I not right???
