Many people got the impression that the children were growing actual devil horns because of their smartphones use. They are actually tiny bone protrusions at the base of our skull! Look at the following coverage in the social and print media:
British tabloid ‘The Sun’ called “HELL PHONES”!
These boney protrusions became “SPIKE like feature” in BBC article.
This became “Horns in the back of the head” on Australia’s news.com.au.
Finally, the Washington Post warned that “Horns are growing on young people’s skulls and according to their research “The phone use is to blame”.
The so-called researchers looked at the X-rays of 1200 people, at a chiropractic clinic. They measured the bony protrusions at the back of the skull. If it exceeded 10mm, they called it ‘enlarged’. They compared how common this enlarged protuberance between different age groups. They found that is more common in young people. Hence, they speculated that it could be due to smartphone and tablet use.
In the wake of media attention, many people believed this story. This is a flawed research! When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. My advice is to be judiciously skeptical of what we see online and in the media. You will surely get to see the truth come limping by.
The heaviest rates of smart phone addiction in the world are found in China, followed by Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. UK and Us did not feature in the Top ten. This addiction can result in ‘psychological consequences.’ India is inching towards top 10. It is a shame that Nepal is in top 10 and we are not! These days we talk of the smartphone addiction and of the de-addiction! Online games, videos, Instagram & TikTok etc. are more famous than the gods! From 4G to 5G. We have seen the effects of 4G. God alone knows what happens in 5G. Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled cell phones! These are not Cell Phones but are Hell Phones! We have not only developed ‘horns in the back of the head’ but also developing a tail too! Hell Phones are the begging of the end. Hell is breaking lose.
