There is a question that attracted my attention in the Motor Insurance application form. That
question is: ‘Whether the car is certified as vintage car by Vintage and Classic Car club of India?’
Vintage and Classic Car Club of India…what is it? I was curious to know more about this Vintage and
Classic Car Club of India? Very briefly the bare facts are as follows:
The Vintage and Classic Car Club of India was founded by Mr. Pranlal Bhogilal with the objective of
preserving this rich heritage of cars in our country. It has on its roster eminent personalities like HH
Manvendra Singh Barwani, Dr. Vijay Mallya, Mr. Sharad Sanghi, Mr. Nitin Dossa, Mr. Hormusji Cama, Mr. Vivek Goenka and other eminent persons who have a priceless car collection of vintage and classic cars.
I searched for their website. Their website is www.vccci.com expired long ago! One of their member Dr. Vijay Mallya! I don’t have to talk about him. The reader knows too much about this gentleman!
I fail to understand in what way this question is relevant in motor insurance application. In what way does it help the millions of motor insurers? How can you ask an applicant for a certification from the Vintage and Classic Car Club of India? Are we not simply asking questions in Motor Insurance application form for the sake of asking?
I wish to state either the insurance regulator (IRDAI) and the non-life insurers are very smart or the motor insurers are plain stupid to entertain such a great question on Vintage and Classic Car Club of India. I prefer the later!
