The entire movie is based on this fantastic insurance clause: Second to Die. In insurance it is used for estate planning either to fund an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT) or to pass on the death benefits to children/grandchildren.
Second to Die insurance is a policy that is designed to cover the risk on the lives of two persons – typically but not exclusively, married couples. It pays a death benefit only after the last surviving individual passes away. It is also known as Survivorship Insurance or Joint Survivorship Insurance.
In India this is popularly known as Joint Life or JEEVAN SAATHI which insures the lives of husband and wife. The sentiment in India for this policy is understandable. A man and a woman became one in marriage. Two bodies…but one soul! They wish to be in that manner in every act of initial marital life. This policy is designed to cash that popular sentiment. After a few years in to the marriage they would be regretting their decision.
Second to Die is a great insurance movie, with a wrong rating of IMDb of 4.8/10. Hence, my strong advice is not to follow these ratings for this movie. You will be missing a very good movie if you do not see it. I am saying this not only from the perspective of insurance but also otherwise. The last twist in this movie blows your mind away! It went beyond Second to Die! Director Brad Marlowe has done a remarkable work, every actor is perfectly casted. I saw Second to Die thrice to understand the implication of the twist.
